Threat and Hazard Identification in South Carolina
Some several threats and hazards have been facing my community over time. These hazards are either natural, technological, or human orchestrated (Federal Emergency Management, 2018). Threats and risks of concern include floods, the release of hazardous materials and gases from nearby companies and manufacturing industries, and spills. Additionally, there are increasing cases of robbery and assault by armed bandits. According to Mitigation (2018), four thousand deaths in the United States (US) have been attributed to floods since 1950. In South Carolina, flooding has been a dominant disaster in the floodplains due to the lack of appropriate maintenance to control floods and the drainage systems. The five distinct types of floods affecting the community include flash floods, coastal floods, riverine floods, dam failure, and drainage problems (Mitigation, 2018).
