Herman Melville's book Moby Dick is a classical story that numerous audiences have used globally to understand different topics. The most common one is the connection between the story and the American dream that everyone seems to yearn for—having an education, a family, a job, a house, and a purpose. All these are attainable in society, but the opportunity differs depending on the environment and available opportunities. Among the characters that carry this dream and showcase the power of the dream is Ishmael, who takes on the narrator's role and enlightens the audience on the voyage's role and the people that sailed on it (Elliot, 1986). However, some other characters and names allude to other ideas in the author's original story. For this analysis, I will pick three names and explain their role in the story. Part of the analysis will also be how the story would have ended if their roles would have been exchanged. The aspect of prophecy will also be dissected because it played a critical role in capturing the audience's attention and preparing them for the end. The three characters in the discussion will be Ahab, the protagonist, Gabriel, a prophet on the Jeroboam ship, and Fedallah, an exotic prophet aboard Pequod.
