Ethics in Corrections Name: Institution: Ethics in Corrections After an evaluation on private prisons versus the government-run prisons, I have concluded that the privatization of prisons is better because it is cost-saving and safer as compared to the traditional government-run facilities. Therefore, my opinion is that the prisons should be privatized as the benefits surpass the disadvantages. However, on the ethical side of the focusing on profit by prisons, I believe that they should not entirely concentrate on making money but also correcting and rehabilitating the inmates. On the other hand, one should consider that the prisons must be maintained and; hence, profits must be made. The inmates need to be cared for regarding the basic needs that include food, water, and sanitation. Therefore, the making profit is essential for the prisons (Lindsey, Mears & Cochran, 2016). However, the private prisons should not only be focused on making profits only without taking the initiative to rehabilitating the prisoners making them reform and become active and useful in the society. Nonetheless, making profits can be lead to modern-day slavery where most of the private prisons as they need to have inmates all the time to keep the business running (Blakely & Bumphus, 2004). Hence, there may be some conspiracies between the law enforcement officer with the private prisons where even petty crimes would lead to arrests and imprisonment for the sake of the corporate or private prisons. I partially support the phasing out of private prisons. Some facilities are doing well in the industry by observing all the set rules and regulations and; therefore, the safety of the prisoners as well as the rehabilitating role is well checked in the process (Blakely & Bumphus, 2004).
