Developing a Democracy Your Name Subject and Section Professor’s Name September 17, 2019 It is imperative for any country to adopt a form of government that is truly representative of its people. This stems from the fact that since countries are up of individuals, then their inherent rights must be respected by the sovereign power in one way or another. Yet, what differentiates these countries is the way that these rights are expressed, protected, and enforced to everyone. Specifically, while Democratic countries place importance over an individual’s vested rights (i.e., right to property), there are countries who prefers to prioritize progress and ideals at the expense of these people. In this article, the author would like to show how citizens from a ‘socialist’ country like China could fully enjoy the blessings of freedom and independence. A Socialist Country Despite its seeming inclination towards Capitalism, China has always been a socialist government. In fact, before it rose to its current status as one of the world’s superpowers, the Chinese have strongly believed in the promises of Communism as a way of government under the administration of Mao Ze Dong. Yet, due to its failure in achieving economic and diplomatic goals, the government believed that it would be best to adopt a socialist type of government, that deviates from the kind envisioned by Karl Marx CITATION Wonnd \l 1033 (Wong & Zhou, n.d.). This is because Chinese have shifted their perspective from the idea from a State of ‘absolute control’ to one that fosters the co-existence of long-term State control and profitability CITATION Hol15 \l 1033 (Holmes, 2015). A Federalist Democracy Despite China’s success in improving its economy through a Socialist perspective, this does not mean that the citizens enjoy the same.
