1 There is no dearth of research supporting cultivation theory, but there’s also a wide body of research discrediting cultivation theory. Where do you stand? Is cultivation theory helpful? If so, what phenomena do you think it’s helpful in explaining? If not, why not?
The media, according to the argument, frequently presents a world that is not representative of reality. Television images are either exaggerations or dreams of reality. There are too many attractive males, attractive females, crime, wealth, and violence. As a result, people have a warped impression of reality and see things through a “television perspective.” (Morgan & Shanahan, 2010). I discredit the cultivation theory in that I have encountered personnel who have undergone depression and loneliness, a sense of alienation thinking the world is a malicious place (Billings et al., 2013).
