Creative Writing: The Wife's Story and Reflection

Essay Instructions:

Assignment: Make something creative related to one of your favorite readings from the course.

Instructions:

  • Choose a reading from the course that you would like to work with. Something you liked, or really didn’t like, or you found interesting – overall, or just one specific part.
  • Create your own response to this reading. It can be a powerpoint about a favorite character, a section turned into graphic novel page, a new ending for a story, a poem inspired by this, etc. You could even write a song or make a sculpture. Any of these options are good, but if you have something else in mind, great! Just shoot me an email and I can approve it.
  • To accompany your creative project, you will need to write a 300-400 word reflection. You will need to answer the following questions:
  1. Why did you choose this reading? Be specific
  2. How did you choose what kind of project to create in relation to this reading?
  3. What was the process of creating this project
  4. How did work on this project change or deepen your thinking about the original reading?

Please submit the project in the Final Project assignment, with the reflection. If you’re creating something to do with fine art, you are welcome to make it and submit it by taking pictures. Sounds recordings are also great. If you’re not sure how to submit, you can always email it to me.

The day came
The day of the moon
The day that took his father before him
The day he turned into an ogre;
I stood there speechless
I stood there shaking

I stood there in dilemma;
His face was flat
His feet elongated
His body gigantic
His handsomeness vanished;
He vanished to the hills
He fled for his life
He followed his father
He blamed the moon;
My sister
My lovely sister
My sole sister
Killed my love.
The Wife’s Story by Ursula K. Le Gui
Reflection
1 Why did you choose this reading? Be specific.
I chose this reading because I love fiction. This is a fiction story of a wife narrating about her husband and how he turned into an ogre. The ogre narrative takes me to a fictional world where I create great imagery of the life of the wife, her handsome husband, and her children. The story flows smo...
