According to Burroway, Janet. 2019. Writing Fiction (10th edition), "your fiction can only be as successful as the characters who move it and move within it." Assuming this is true, which it is, your story's success will directly reflect the effort and energy you put into developing interesting and believable characters.
There are a number of things you can do to ensure that readers will find your characters likeable and believable. Consider the techniques used in the Bausch and Welty’s readings (use Google search), then note one or two techniques that you would like to “borrow” from the author to alter and make your own.
Consider the three methods of conveying speech (summary, indirect speech, direct quotation). Discuss how you might see these techniques work for your short fiction story.
