  Applied Linguistics Name Institution Date Introduction Laufer & Nation, (1995) argued that Lexical Frequency Profile (LFP) was a reliable and valid test of vocabulary size, which indicates the lexical richness in the quality of writing. Laufer & Nation, (1995, p.311) defined Lexical Frequency Profile, as “the relative proportion of words from different frequency levels”. There are various ways of assessing vocabulary knowledge and the text-based LFP ought to be considered when measuring the lexical frequency. The LFP tool excludes subjective judgment when evaluating the writing quality and is useful in measuring the vocabulary size, and the test represents language proficiency. The researchers found out that there was a correlation between the active vocabulary size and lexical richness suggesting that language vocabulary use improves the quality of writing. Response             Vocabulary knowledge, size and frequency represent the lexical richness, and when L2 learners understand and use different vocabulary, they are more likely to improve their writing production.  Laufer & Nation (1995) rightly mentioned other measures of lexical richness besides their proposed Lexical Frequency Profile, and this helped to make the case for LFP as they identified the benefit...
