Web-based communication and interaction is an essential part of the day-to-day lives of individuals. It affects not only how every person and organization communicate with one another, but also how they shape their character and preferences based on how they perceive contents that they view on the web. Accordingly, these effects transcend even the governance of society since the state (especially its rule-making body) is essentially made up of human beings. In this article, the effects of web-based communication would be discussed in greater detail. All in all, the author believes that web-based communication plays an essential role in shaping public attitudes and the policy-making process since both the masses and the government are both made up of people.
Public Attitudes and Policy Making
Public attitude and policymaking are closely intertwined with one another. On the one hand, public attitude affects the perception and the action of the masses who are the one responsible for electing their own officials. This is the reason why billions of dollars are spent in the United States alone for political campaigns in order to preserve the good public image of politicians (Byfield, 1996). On the other hand, policy-making also sways to the wants of the masses. This tendency is in line with the goal of the members of the law-making body to be re-elected for their own good deeds and contribution towards progress.
 
Effects of Web-based Communication of Perception
Web-based communication heavily affects both public attitude and policy-making. In a study conducted by Rill and Cardiel (2013), it was shown that ‘user-generated political satire’ affects public attitudes towards politicians differently based on whether it was positive or negative.
