Ms. A states, “Menorrhagia and dysmenorrheal have been a problem for 10-12 years, and I take 1,000 mg of aspirin every 3 to 4 hours for 6 days during menstruation.” During the summer months, while playing golf, she also takes aspirin to avoid “stiffness in my joints.” Laboratory values are as follows: Hemoglobin = 8 g/dl Hematocrit = 32% Erythrocyte count = 3.1 x 10/mm RBC smear showed microcytic and hypochromic cells Reticulocyte count = 1.5% Other laboratory values were within normal limits. Introduction
Anemia is a body condition that leads to the body has less ability to produce red blood cells that are healthy, such that the blood does not have the required amount of oxygen to transport to the tissues through tout the body (WebMD, 2013). The aspect of the red blood cells that in this case determines if they are helthy is that of containing enough hemoglobin, which is a complex that combines with the oxygen that the blood collect from the lungs. For the body to produce this complex, it needs iron, proteins, vitamins and minerals in plenty.
Patient A diagnosis
Exhaustion is one of the most common symptoms that most of the patients that suffer from this condition will first complain of (HYPERLINK "/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=90345" \t "_blank"Nabili, 2013). This is should not be confused with the symptoms of diabetes which almost the same. In the case of anemia the patient will experience loss of energy due to lack of enough energy in the muscle tissues as a result of the low oxygen in the blood. While looking at the case of Ms. A, she experienced low blood pressure, heightened body temperature and respiration. She has also in the past (10-12 years) had a history of heavy and painful menstruation. For starters she has an abnormal menstruation that costs her a lot of blood, which is why she, has this anemic symptoms heightened during this period in particular (MDGuidlines, 2013).
The patient is suffering from the iron deficiency anemia, which is the most common anemia in the world.
