Nonverbal communication is significant in the communication process because it contributes to easy understanding of the message in a communication context. On a personal level, I have strengths and weaknesses in nonverbal communication. I accompany most of my verbal conversations with nonverbal cues. I use facial expressions to show that I am pissed off or pleased by a particular communication context. For this reason, I find it hard to communicate with a person who does not employ nonverbal cues. However, my weakness is that I am shy and cannot keep eye contact for long. I often avoid eye contact with people during communication processes without a valid reason. I also find it hard to differentiate sarcasm from genuineness in a nonverbal context because I interpret all smiles to mean happiness.
