My client is a capitalist, motivated by self-interest and not greed. Capitalism is the economic system in which individuals can freely own properties and sell them in terms determined by the free market; the demand and supply control consumer prices. Thus, the free market in capitalism works effectively because individuals with self-interest guide it. Therefore, the exchange is motivated if the two parties are bound to benefit. Capitalism is not greedy but rather a system that is driven by self-interest (Lindsley, 2017). Individuals can be greedy in any model of an economic system. However, self-interests builts a society, and being greedy is a personal choice from within oneself. Therefore, my client making a market decision driven by self-interest does not make him greedy.
Notably, there is a distinction between selfishness and self-interest. Selfishness is immoral, while self-interest is moral. Capitalism is based on individuals exchanging on self-interest terms and not on selfishness. Undeniably, many of our daily activities are based on self-interest, not selfishness, such as eating healthy food and brushing our teeth. Yet, biblically, people are asked to make choices based on self-interest.
Additionally, my client donates to charity and complies with the taxation law of this country. A greedy person wants to have more and keep it all to themselves. On the other hand, my client acts freely and gives as much as he gains. Also, my client has the best interest of the consumer at heart. He understands to make a fortune in the market, their products must be of the best quality to the consumer and competitive.
