New York's Gay Pride Parade celebrates passage of same-sex marriage law There are many ways the ideas from Chapter 13 apply to our interpersonal conflicts and how we manage them. Quite often, disagreements between people concern issues reflecting societal conflicts. Currently, American society is engaged in numerous conflicts, which focus on different issues at state and federal levels. These issues may permeate neighborhoods, and even families, where differences of opinion exist. Societal conflicts that exist at the interpersonal level involve social, religious, political, and economic issues.
As we approach the end of the course, it is appropriate to take time and reflect on how the concepts from this course apply to everyday situations. Chapter 13 focuses on managing social conflict. Instead of providing you with a case study, this activity will give you the opportunity to explore the managing of a social issue of your choice.
As you analyze your selected social issue, describe how the concepts from chapter 13 apply to your social issue. Since your analysis may be driven by your worldview, it is critical to validate your position with scholarly references and concepts from the assigned reading.
For this activity, please engage in the following:
Search in the Excelsior library for a current social issue. Use the Library Tip Sheet download to help you perform an effective search.
Provide background (briefly) of the issue and then express your position about the issue in the introduction of your essay (use a thesis).
Provide the necessary evidence (research) to validate your position.
Use and define the concepts you read in Chapter 13 that apply to this scenario.
Explain and contextualize the behavior of the groups or people you see involved in your selected social issue (provide evidence of research).
Cite at least two sources using APA style using scholarly sources from the library.

Climate change is one of the most pressing social issues nowadays. Previously, it was often disregarded, but since it dramatically affects the larger population groups, it gradually caught the people’s attention, particularly the policymakers. This issue needs to be addressed because it creates a conflict and a wider gap between the higher and lower social statuses. Despite the urgency of the issue, various sectors argue about its prioritization, making it an intractable issue that makes it even harder to address.
Based on the data presented by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), extreme weather conditions brought about by climate change displace the marginalized communities to worse situations. It results in varying degrees of drought and stormy weather, forcing people to temporarily evacuate their homes while the others are encouraged to move to safer areas. Approximately 10.5 million people were displaced from the most vulnerable areas due to the extreme weather conditions, and most of them came from countries without the capacity to adapt because they lack the funding or those with a present internal conflict leading to violence and aggression in the area. One of these countries is Afghanistan. The country is a disaster-prone area, whether natural or human-made disasters. Natural disasters hit at least one of the country’s thirty-four provinces annually. At the same time, approximately seventy percent have already been displaced secondary to civil and international war (UNHCR, 2021).
The internal conflicts have already destroyed the welfare of the Afghans, snatching them their right to live peacefully and their right to a proper livelihood and access to necessities, and the presence of climate change worsens their conditions, prompting the civilians to seek refuge in wealthier countries, like the United States. Their calvary does not also end after they entered a safer place. Instead, they are faced with new challenges...
