Be recognized as a unique individual and treating every child equally are important for their growth and development, and as such are prioritized in child and youth care. I grew up in a lower middle income neighbourhood and my parents took many jobs, while I was younger, but this did not affect the quality of relationship as they found time and were nurturing. My family is family oriented and my mother who is my mentor had close relationship with her neighbours and some of her fellow church members also took care of me and my siblings. Looking back now, this helped in the look promotion of healthy environments, and working with children and youth facilitates emotional and social growth.
Families offer a sense of belonging and identity and my parents have been married before I was born and have always emphasized the importance of togetherness and resilience. I grew up in lower middle income neighbourhood and my parents took many jobs, while I was younger, but this did not affect the quality of relationship as they found time and were nurturing. My father worked in the same job for more than 10 years, but since my mother had not advanced her education, she worked multiple jobs in the service industry, sometimes holding two jobs at once. She is my mentor as she worked hard, persisted and gained skills and knowledge, and she did not complain even once when under pressure.
My mother’s positive attitude in life influenced me as I grew up, and I actively participated in sports and began volunteering during my teenage years in church and clean up exercises.. Working closely with other teenagers and interacting with youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, made me realize the importance of healthy environments and a strong support system.
