Boeing’s 737 MAX Crisis Investigation
Case Analysis
Boeing is one the largest commercial aircraft producer in the world. It faced many disasters after its two planes crashed, the one was Lion Air crash in October 2018 and the other one was Ethiopian Airlines crash which took place in March 2019. Both these planes had the similar jet aircraft model that was Boeing’s 737 MAX. Boeing 737 MAX was introduced in 2017 and it was considered to be the most reliable and cost-competitive solution for the air journey in the existing century (Ganev, 2019). After the planes got crashed, Boeing 737 MAX was not considered reliable or secure due to which Boeing had to suffer a lot due to this reason.
Management of Crisis Communication
Boeing faced a crisis when its two jets got crashed back to back. A crisis is considered to cause damage to an individual or the company as a whole. Organizations need to communicate with their customers in a crisis state in order to limit the harm caused by it. Crisis communication includes the recognition of the inner and outdoor beneficiaries to whom the information must be transferred. In a crisis, the organization needs to take the correct action as this is the most crucial period for a company and one wrong step can make things worse for them. Organizations should make the ones associated with their company believe that this same situation would not occur again (Zaremba, 2014). Organizations need to gain people’s trust and they could do this only through communicating with them. So, communication plays a vital role for an organization when a crisis takes place as, through this, they can make their clients and stakeholders understand that how they would be working to rise above this situation.
Boeing’s Crisis Management
Boeing had no idea that what was the main reason behind their planes crash. They were waiting for others to speak up on their behalf and tell everyone that what was exactly happening with Boeing 737 MAX. They were looking for the reasons behind all this disaster by themselves too but they did not speak about it publicly. They did not make any efforts to make their customers understand the overall situation due to which people had questioned them regarding their safety. Even after the entire crisis, Boeing did not accept its fault and in the press release and emails, it kept on claiming that their planes were safe to fly on (Vogel & Linden PR, 2019). Travelers were concerned about 737 MAX that it is not reliable for them but still Boeing did not make any hard work to convince them regarding their safety. Boeing was trying to protect its plane’s safety so that they could not bear any losses through the cancellation of the orders of 737 MAX. The biggest aircraft manufacturer had no proper explanation for their jets blunder. After the second crash, CEO Muhlenberg shared a video on social media in which he apologized on behalf of Boeing but that video came after a long time due to which Boeing already lost its contracts and trust from its clients (Baker, 2019). Basically, people did not stop trusting Boeing because of the plane crashed instead they stopped tr...
