Telephonic or disease management programs are an effective way of treating chronic diseases (Avery, Cook, & Talens, 2016). By assigning nursing personnel to a specific population, this population can enjoy the benefits of regular and specialized care for a fraction of the cost. The fact that costs are lowered for such patients works well to ensure that nurses are also capable of serving a great number of patients in a single day (O'Donohue & Draper, 2011; Shi & Singh, 2004). The result is an effective way of managing healthcare systems and providing services to chronically ill patients (Nuovo, 2007). While these programs may sometimes suffer from inefficiencies from poor diagnosing as well as technological challenges, they are highly effective at managing the healthcare conditions of chronically ill patients that primarily require regular follow ups to ensure recovery.
The inclusion of medication for seniors as part of the Medicare Part D is integral to the success of the plan and for improving the overall health of the American population. First off, it is vital to note that the increase in the elderly across the US, and particularly many who cannot afford to pay for medication, warrants this decision (Fincham, 2007).
