I need a revision on the rough draft that I have uploaded. the highlighted part is my thesis statement.The feedback from the instructor said I need to make my thesis match the body paragraphs. i need the grammar to be corrected. ANALYSIS ON ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY
“Me Talk Pretty One Day” by David Sedaris describes a casual and humorous tone about the struggles of learning a new language as an older student. He uses his personal experience to make the story relatable to the audience. He overcomes the intimidation of being in a class full of people that much younger than him. Even though the task was hard to deal with, he kept on pushing to achieve his goals. The teacher doesn’t make it any easier on him, and the struggles of learning another language as an older student are well presented. This is because the author uses personal experiences to resonate with the audience, describes how strict the instructor was, and shows progress from getting a reality check from being too cocky initially.
Sedaris is intimidated by the younger students in his class but realizes that they are in the same struggle. With this knowledge, he can use them as a support group and can progress in his studies. “My only comfort was the knowledge that I was not alone” (David, 1999). They all persevered together to try and learn the language. Insults and demoralization braced the entire experience of the teacher. Moreover, Sedaris and a few other students went through the struggles of learning the language, as most often, they would speak “broken” French. The determination and resilience that he showed resonated with everyone else, and they all stuck in there. It came to his attention that as he was getting scolded by his instructor, he understood what she said. However, the author could only interpret what the teacher tried to say but did not fully understand its language. Through these harsh experiences, the author illustrates the struggles of learning a new language.
Sedaris describes how unorthodox and strict that the instructor was. The teacher does not give out compliments and is very harsh during her lessons. The verbal abuse that he suffers would break most people. Moreover, he was intimidated by the way the teacher ridiculed other students who answered questions in class. Furthermore, the teacher magnified his mispronunciations and assigned gender to floor waxer and typewriter, making him scared. Sedaris feels personally attacked by the teacher when she says she hates him. However, he does not let that deter him and strengthens his resolve to succeed in the class. “Call me sensitive, but I couldn’t help but take it personally” (David, 1999). His expression further describes the intensity of mental conflicts he went through during this learning period.
