A Commentary for the article “The battle against obesity begins at school” by Glen Hodgson
Hodgson’s article emphasizes the importance of school system in addressing the problem of rising cases of obesity among Canadian children today (Hodgson, 2012). I support the views presented by the author since children spend most of their time is schools compared to homes. School system is therefore the right target to prevent obesity through the introduction of physical activity and health and lifestyle education. Health and lifestyle education should be part of the school curriculum to prevent the issue of obesity since the condition is a risk factor of other complications such as cancer, stroke and heart attacks (Hodgson, 2012). Besides obesity being a potential risk of other diseases, it is an economic burden.
