One of the first issues considered in green buildings is integrating sustainable building designs to ensure there is better energy efficiency. Requiring integration of new building technology and materials appropriate to make the neighborhood greener and energy efficient is essential to reduce impact on the environment.
Improving the ventilation and indoor air through redesigns and choice of materials, which allow more natural light as an extension of the building design. The inefficient building stock would be considered for the redesigns, which will improve the indoor environment, while focusing on enhancing resiliency.
Building upgrades would integrate space conditioning and water heating to improved energy use and where possible integrate solar energy capture. For the space conditioning systems the furnace and air conditioner replacements are appropriate as are the air conditioners are more energy efficient and heaters (Bristow & Bristow, 2017).

The importance of sustainable rehabilitation is important as reflected by the legislation and the building need to adapt to the climate optimizes the use of materials that reduce energy consumption.
Redesigns and selection of the construction materials is important to meet the criteria of sustainability and optimize the resources and ensure there is better heating and cooling. The aim is to make the least damage to the environment and ensure that the indoor environment is consistent with industry standards and will improve the indoor environment.
