Nuts have been said to have health benefits, specifically in lowering the risk of heart diseases. A study conducted by Aune et al. (2016) indicated that nuts could do more than that because moderate consumption of nuts can also lower the risk of total cancer, diabetes, mortality from respiratory diseases, and all-cause mortality. This discovery was reported in the Time by Park (2016) who, in her report, indicated that nut consumption might prevent major diseases.
The report only mentioned some of the diseases that can be lowered by a moderate nut consumption (20g) such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes, leaving out other health benefits that were mentioned in the actual study. These benefits include the reduction of mortality from infectious diseases and a reduced risk of stroke. This indicates a bias in the reporting of the study’s findings.
