I chose the topic because it involves the aspect of environmental conservation. In the 21st century, human activity highly threatens to deplete natural resources and pollute the environment. Humans rely heavily on the environment for their survival and continued existence. Therefore, if they destroy the natural environment, everyone and every creature will risk its distinction.
Event Summary
The former US President, Donald Trump, formulated policies that allowed increased mining and logging to increase development. The activities were set to occur in the densely populated and beautiful Alaska rainforest. Notably, President Donald Trump made a wrong decision because the activities would destroy the natural rainforests (Davenport, 2021). It is against the pacts that world leaders and communities have regarding environmental conservation. Despite development being significant and mandatory for human existence, the natural environment is far much essential to the survival of human beings. However, the current US President, Joe Biden, and his administration have moved fast to reverse the policy and save the rainforest. Through the Agriculture Department, the administration announced its plan to restore and protect the fragile forest from logging and human activity under an initiative dubbed the Tongass Strategy (Davenport, 2021). The strategy involves further development projects around the forest to increase its protection and health. It is an initiative that cements President Biden’s campaign promises of enacting laws to address the problem of climate change to which the former president gave little attention.
