The chief has asked you to conduct a cost–benefit analysis of fire code compliance. This analysis should provide an overview of non-enforcement versus enforcement of the fire code.
Try to research the number of commercial fires that occur within your jurisdiction, and determine if the fires could have been prevented if fire codes were enforced.

Over the recent past, the number of cases of fire in Kentucky has increased significantly. Such fires have destroyed property, loss of money, and deaths, raising concerns from the residents. As a result, the chief has assigned me the role of developing a cost-benefit analysis of fire compliance. The analysis provides an overview of enforcement versus non-enforcement of the fire code. The number of recent commercial fires which have occurred in Ketucky is also presented. The analysis also showed that the fires could have been prevented, and hence the damage caused, if the codes had been enforced.
Cost benefit analysis involves evaluation of the costs of running, maintaining, and installing features as defined in the fire code system to help in the prevention of fire incidences or reduction of their impact (Ferreira, Vega-Oliveros, Zhao, Cardoso, & Macau, 2020). This cost is compared to the cost of handling injuries related to fires, fatalities, and destruction of property.
Notably, adherence to the fire code is associated with increased costs of cost since the materials which should be used for construction purposes are dictated by the code. For example, if one is to use wood in making the interior, they may be required to use logs since they burn slower than thin wood (Mockrin, Fishler, & Stewart, 2020). The cost of setting up a fire prevention system such as a heat or smoke detector is also involved. Further, the costs of setting a fire prevention system up are included; this could be a sprinkler system or other mechanisms of fire extinguishing. Although such costs could drive the overall cost high, this is a better option than risking losing an entire building or properties. As such, enforcing the fire code can be expensive, but it can help in reducing cases of fire outbreaks and the damages resulting from such fires.
