While a career in law enforcement can be fulfilling, it comes with its fair share of challenges, one of them being stress. According to Queirós et al. (2020), being a law enforcement officer is not only a highly stressful occupation, but it is also very demanding. In this sense, the cause of stress in law enforcement include danger and uncertainty that come with the constant threat of terrorist attacks, rise in violence due to firearms in urban locations, supervision difficulties, criticisms from society, low resources, and lack of support and understanding from friends and family (Queirós et al., 2020). These factors can elevate stress among law enforcement officers and can sometimes even result in depression and suicide. Understanding these factors can help determine possible strategies for managing stress.
