Learning in Action Journal, Week 5
Introduction (50 – 75 words)
During this week’s case study…………..
What (Reflection) (50 – 75 words) Take one area of your readings, facilitated chats, or discussion question and describe enough of the situation for your reader to understand your perspective and share your reflections of the situation. In this section, you reflect on the situation or event (what happened, who was involved, what was the outcome), and make connections to your real-world environment. You are taking more of a balcony view in seeing how yours or one person’s actions affected others.
So What (Introspection) (50 – 75 words) This is the section where you look inside yourself and objectively assess your thoughts, emotions, words and actions. What is the importance to you, to others and to your unit or department, along with the context of this class? You conjecture the “what if’s” in your thoughts and actions, putting forth how the outcome would have changed if your actions were different. Explain your reasoning.
Now What (Leader Development) (50 – 75 words) What two or three actions will you take as a result of your what (reflection) and so what (introspection)? What have you learned from the discussions and readings and your prior two sections here? Explain your rationale. Your grade can run from no specific plans to increase your leadership / followership skills to clearly identifying new thoughts and/or actions that will provide a different outcome than the one you experienced.   Final Thoughts (50 – 75 words) Your final thoughts on this week’s assignments and your insights from this journal. This week’s discussion and materials covered was very interesting and educational.……..

Discussion Question 5
Universal intellectual standards are the basic standards that should be applied in thinking when one is interested in checking the effectiveness or quality of reasoning about a particular issue or situation. There are several types of universal standards but the most essential are; clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, logic, significance, sufficiency and fairness. The purpose of this assignment is to involve these standards in a critical analysis of the President Obama’s DADT Repeal Act. Many homosexual activists criticized the law because it forced military personnel into secrecy, isolation, stigma and mental problems.
However, by 2008, approximately 12,200 military officers had been discharged from the military 15 years after the law was enforced. The reason was because homosexual military officers refused to hide their homosexuality behavior. Arguably, the negative impacts of the DADT Act had on the US military service and the US society surpassed the positive impacts which makes it ineffective in the current US society. According to----------public opinion has continued to favor the ban which allows gay and lesbian military personnel by 79% Americans comfortable with the ban. Furthermore, 68 % of military personnel supporting the ban by saying that it has boosted the confidence of people joining the military. In a social-cultural context, the number of gay marriages has been on the rise since 1970s when there was a surge in gay right movements. Therefore, if gay relationship have become acceptable in the society, there is no way the DADT law can survive becau...
