Michael Brown was an armed black teenager who was shot in Ferguson, Missouri, by a white police officer, Darren Wilson. After the officer exchanged words with the black boy, the situation escalated, and the two engaged in a short fight before the police shot and killed the eighteen old unarmed Brown. Additionally, Brown’s body remained in the streets for hours before it was picked, and people from the neighborhood believed that the police mistreated his body.
After investigations where established by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the witnesses who saw shooting reported that Brown had raised his hands when he was fired repeatedly by the officer. Later that night, after the people from the neighboring areas demonstrated, the police used riot gear in an attempt to disperse the protesters. Additionally, there were images that showed police officers using heavy gear, assault rifles, and armored vehicles as they tried to engage with the demonstrators.
It is also essential to comprehend that the killing of Michael Brown resulted in the rise of the national civil rights movement regarding how law enforcers and the criminal justice system treat the black people. There are, however, huge changes that have taken place in St. Louis County, where Brown was shot and killed (Rosenbaum, 2019). Joint efforts by a multiracial coalition resulted in the election of an African American prosecutor, Wesley Bell, who replaced Bob McCulloch, who held that position when the jury decided not to charge the officer responsible for the death of Brown.
