Without a doubt, it is vital to note that the United States is both a republic and a democracy because both are forms of government in which the citizens hold the supreme power. On the one hand, the term republic technically refers to a government in which the citizens vote and elect representatives that govern by following the law (Vile 2021). On the other hand, the term democracy refers to an instance where the citizens can take it up to participate in the act of governing directly or the same kind of representative government. As a result, voting plays a considerable role in determining these terms (Willingham 2018). In this case, citizens experience the right to vote through various amendments, which are a modification to the Constitution. In this case, the Amendments that have something to do with the right to vote are the 15th, 17th, 19th, 23rd, 24th, and 26th. For this reason, these amendments play a massive role in moving the United States of America closer to direct democracy, and it is vital to expound on each.
Indeed, the 15th Amendment states that the United States of America or any state shall not abridge or deny the right of its citizens to vote on account of the previous condition of servitude, color, or race (Vile 2021). Hence, the Amendment pushes the country closer to direct democracy by giving everyone a chance to vote and participate in decision-making for the country.
