Institutional and community-based corrections have been used for many years across the United States. Over the years, there have been diverse perceptions about community-based and institutional corrections. People's outlook on both modes of correction is important to warrant effectiveness and support. In the past, people were more interested in institutional correction, which has changed over the years. Many communities currently prefer community-based corrections because of their integrative nature, allowing criminals to adapt to normal community life. Many people believe that integrating back offenders allows them to contribute valuable information to society (Lobet et al., 2019).
The correction systems depend on various organizational and administrative roles directly influenced by the operations and financial resources available. Some of the correction facilities' organizational functions include handling criminals after they are admitted into the system. It is the officers' role to regulate and oversee all the actions of offenders once they are admitted into the system. Some of the duties include securing the facilities and ensuring that inmates have basic resources like water, food, and health services.
