Stress among officers is a multifaceted phenomenon that cannot be eliminated due to the police work nature. Still, if stress is acknowledged in time and treated, it can be managed successfully. Numerous research has demonstrated that bestowing officers with applicable coping skills could enhance their health in areas related to headaches, heart disease, hypertension, and psychological wellbeing like relationships and suicide ideation (Garner, 2008).
Considering that policing is so physically and psychologically demanding, every police department should avail stress management mitigation strategies to officers to assist them in protecting their health and managing stress. Stress alleviation for officers should comprise non-work purviews that can assist them in obtaining social support, behavioral and cognitive skills (Patterson, 2003). Therefore, it is essential to formulate stress management strategies to help police officers reduce stress at work and home.
