Juvenile delinquency is a crime by a minor. Ideally, a juvenile can easily be swayed and influenced to do anything by their peers. Various factors influence juvenile delinquency; social environment, home environment, and school interactions. In a school setting, delinquency can be attributed to various factors; peer interaction, level and quality of education, school attendance, and interactions with their teacher. Significantly, most teenagers spend their life in school and co-curricular activities. According to Laura (2019), schools are places to learn and grow and have an organized routine to help children accomplish their goals. Thus, when students continuously attend school, they adapt to these routines, which reduces delinquent acts. During these interactions, either at school or in the neighborhood, delinquency may not be inevitable as peers easily influence each other. Additionally, a child's behaviors and their family predict problems in school and an increased likelihood of delinquency.
Even though the majority of students are exposed to similar factors within a school setting, the level and quality of education greatly influence delinquent behavior participation. Poor schools which are underfunded and overcrowded are more prone to juvenile delinquency than well-funded schools. Poor schools lack resources to hire enough teachers and resources to boost good performance. In essence, these schools lack order and discipline and are normally associated with bad performance.
Additionally, feeling of isolation and perception of the student they are not receiving enough attention and emotional support from a concerned adult may also play a role in the etiology of a minor crime or aggressive characteristics (Gottfredson, 1997).
