Reports of the Samsung Note 7 explosion began surfacing in late August 2016. The first report of the explosion was brought to the public by Reuters. However, the reports did not negatively affect the sales as they grew significantly until early September when more reports started streaming into the mainstream media and the second. The statements made Samsung recall over 2.5 million phones indicating that the faulty batteries might have caused the defect. After the recall, Samsung re-focused its supply chains around its battery manufacturers to send out battery replacements. However, even after the replacements, cases of explosions were reported.

The affected clients sued Samsung for the damages caused. For instance, according to Reuter’s reports, Jonathan Strobel, a resident of Florida moved to court to file a lawsuit against the company for the explosion of the Note 7. According to the report, the phone exploded in the pocket of Jonathan causing deep-second degree burn injuries to his thigh. The explosion also caused burns to his thumb inflicting burn injuries. The lawsuit sought to compensate the complainant the damages caused by his medical bills, lost wages, and physical and emotional suffering the explosion had caused.
