Cyber-security analysts play a central role in addressing different vulnerabilities within the information systems usage landscape, particularly by safeguarding all kinds of data against loss and theft. As a cyber-security analyst, I will be tasked with appraising and analyzing the different security risks to individuals and organizations' devices, data, and information systems, prioritizing possible threats. Identity theft happens when an individual steals the victim's personal data to use it to commit a crime or fraud. The identity aggressor might use the victim's information to file taxes, apply for credit, or obtain medical services. It is within my capacity as a cyber-security analyst to help solve the problem and prevent detrimental implications for the victims. As a result of identity theft, the victim's credit score is damaged, and it can also cost them their resources and time as they attempt to restore the lost reputation. This paper evaluates the qualifications, the job market, the job description, responsibilities, typical career day, and additional experiences of a cyber-security analyst.
Qualifications
Cyber-security analysts comprise more entry-level roles within the cybersecurity practice. One of the crucial educational qualifications that a cyber-security analyst needs is a bachelor's degree in cyber-security and information assurance. The educational qualification will teach me information technology (IT) fundamentals and crucial cyber-security issues to prepare me for the job's demands and expectations. The critical elements in my cybersecurity education include but are not limited to programming and scripting, hacking and countermeasures, penetration testing, data management, and more (Western Governors University, 2023). Other qualifications include experience working in information security or related career context.
Job Market
According to Cybersecurity Workforce Study, the global shortage of cyber-security professionals is approximately three million. On average, 30 percent of IT professionals interviewed indicated that less than 25 percent of all job applications qualified for the position. The most widespread cyber-security skills include security administration (53%), security analysis (53%), and network monitoring (58%). The leading sectors for cyber-security analysts' job openings include professional services (41%), insurance and finance (18%), manufacturing and defense (10%), and others (31%) (National Institute of Standards and Technology, 2020). These figures indicate a rising demand for cyber-security analyst professionals amid increasing skills shortages in the industry, as Hoogstraten and Bate's (2019) white paper suggested.
Job Description
The cyber-security analyst is tasked with helping with routine activities of safeguarding the company's IT infrastructure. The cyber-security analyst reports to the cyber-security manager and is responsible for offering practical support in different aspects of the infrastructure, network, as well as application security. They also work closely with the various teams within the IT functional unit to guarantee that the ne...
