Security is one of the critical concerns across the United States in addressing terror threats in the country. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has a core mission of securing the United States against potential threats. According to Lahneman (2018)), the September 11, 2001 attacks served as a lesson to keep the United States’ citizens safe within the national borders. Through analysis of the incident, the United States realized its capability to identify threats and protect the country against terrorist attacks. The Intelligence and Homeland Security materials have comprehensive information on terrorism and enhancing security measures to address the issue. Over the years, it has focused on improving the security of the United States while protecting critical infrastructures against natural disasters and terror threats.
The Department of Homeland Security focuses on equipping the Homeland Security Enterprise with information and intelligence it needs to keep the homeland secure and safe. According to the class lessons, Congress has focused on intelligence collection and disseminating information since 9/11. Today, threats from terror groups have emerged as significant security threats (Nolte, 2019). For that reason, the federal government has enhanced its attention on homeland security intelligence. DHS is an organization that focuses on protecting the United States against threats, especially terror attacks. In such a case, the United States involves intelligence to curb the malicious activities of organized criminals, narcotics traffickers, and others engaging in activities that might undermine national security.
According to the Intelligence and Homeland Security material, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, clearly indicated the need to enhance intelligence operations across the United States. Since the occurrence of the incident, DHS and the federal government realized the necessity of changing law enforcement intelligence (Nolte, 2019). Over the years, scholars and researchers have reviewed and researched intelligence operations. Intelligence operations are applicable in curbing local crimes and terrorist threats following enhanced homeland security.
