Case Assignment
In this project, you will set recovery objectives for a web-based e-mail and customer applications used by a private organization. The recovery objectives to be set are Recovery Point Objective (RPO), Recovery Time Objective (RTO), Recovery Consistency Objective (RCO), and Recovery Capacity Objective (RCapO).
You need to justify the recovery targets you set. You should employ reasonableness for the organization and not go “overboard” and suggest an elaborate scheme that few organizations would find economically feasible.
An e-mail application was chosen as the context, as this should be a clearly understood application upon which to apply the concepts of recovery targets.

Due to the increasing number of dangers and risks in today's digital world, organizations need to have a strategic and pre-determined plan regarding any contingencies that might arise. These contingencies include any disasters that might jeopardize the safety of its digital, personal, and other critical files. Accordingly, one way of setting up contingencies against these is the use of business continuity and disaster recovery plans for any disasters. By having these, businesses could continue their operations and provide effective plan management on how to deliver their services despite a disaster or any other improvement in IT security systems.
Accordingly, some of the considerations for this to happen to include the use of Recovery Capacity Objectives (RCapO), Recovery Consistency Objectives (RCO), Recovery Point Objectives (RPO), and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO). In this article, the author will discuss how these can be used to ensure business continuity and IT security in the context of an email application.
Recovery Time Objectives
Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) are one of the most important considerations that any organization should have. Generally, RTO is defined as the duration before the data or application is recovered and fully secured after the disaster or the systems breach. Accordingly, in a small business organization that does not have voluminous data, the desired RTO should be at four hours maximum to protect the data, prevent any possible breach, and ensure the security of the organization's personal information. The author believes that this RTO is just right, especially for small-scale companies that "cannot operate using paper orders and manual invoicing" CITATION Car21 \l 1033 (Carklin, 2021).
However, for larger organizations with critical data, the RTO should not be more than one to two days to ensure the efficiency of the recovery process and help continue the operations quickly.
