Technological changes have infiltrated every aspect of life that has made solving of crime to advance and become futuristic. Some of the technological changes regarding crime include retinal scanning to obtain or trace evidence chemistry and the actual forensic science that are so advanced. The advancement in technology plays a significant role in solving crimes and they seem to be like from a thriller of science fiction (Nalla, 2001). The field of computer technology and forensic science are some of the fastest growing in advancement, especially in the United States. For example, the techniques used in forensic science have been made popular through shows such as NCIS and CSI. One may think that the current forensic science principles are virtually old to the perceptive viewers of today. In fact, some credibly cool forensic science techniques exist that may do not know to exist.
Forensic science can be defined as the use of science in civil and criminal laws during criminal investigation tasks in accordance to the governing standards of criminal procedures and admissible evidence. Forensic science is applied in the collection, preservation, and the analysis of scientific evidence during criminal investigation courses (Millen, 2000). On the other hand, computer crime entails a broad category of computer related offenses that included improper access of a system, computer, or a network, introducing contaminants such as viruses to a computer system. Lastly, cyber crime is similar to computer crime because it also involves the improper use of computers and networks (Nalla, 2001). In general, computer and cyber crimes are categorized into various classes including computer as a target, the computer as a tool, and financial fraud among other prohibited acts regarding technological gadgets.
The advancement of technology has resulted in the development of forensic investigative tools to counter the technical crimes in the current world. Some of the developed tools include an alternative light photograph that ascertains the extent of physical injury in the internal organs of a patient to assist in medical care and collection of exhibit for further analysis and reporting (Walker, 2001). Another tool is the high-speed photograph that employs high-speed cameras to trace bullet holes, glass shatters, and gunshot wounds. It is important to note that today, forensic scientists use advanced tools in their crime investigations.
