First Response – Biological and Genetic Contributors to Crime
The notion that biological and genetic factors influence one’s criminal behavior has elicited major debates, and it is fair to say that some people are still not convinced. The first author, however, is among those who believe that biological factors influence one’s behavior. First of all, he mentions the MAOA alleles that have for a while been examined to try and end the biology and crime relation stalemate. The inference made with regards to this allele is that its prevalence in one’s system increases an individual’s chances of taking part in criminal activities.
The author then alienated gender and criminal behavior as some of the biological factors that can also influence crime. On one’s gender, the author bases his conclusion that males rate of crime is higher than females’ rate on research by Wright and Beaver (2012). From experience, the number of male offenders is higher than that of females and thus it is fair to say that there is some truth to the author’s words.
