What was the significance of the Civil War?
The Civil War was significant in that it brought about the expansion of democracy. Democracy came about after the then President Lincoln directed that all slaves be freed especially those under the control of the Southern states. He also went ahead to sign the Emancipation Proclamation legislation, officially giving all slaves freedom. Additionally, the war gave rise to Civil Rights legislation such as the 13th Amendment that eradicated slavery, 14th Amendment that provided slaves citizenship and 15th Amendment that enabled the African American men to vote.
