Having much land was the only way to make a nation great during those times since the rawer materials a country had, the more money could flow into its economy. Furthermore, all items that circulate on the market generate taxes, which are ultimately used to fund the British government. According to the research, "whoever has the most toys before they die wins." This is accurate since a country with a vast land mass and natural resources to make money has a higher economic growth rate. However, the quest to be the continent's greatest country overlooked the relevance of ordinary inhabitants in the country, transforming the British empire into a dictator.
It is clearly stated in the first paragraph that the "horrible burden of unfair taxes the British had imposed upon them for over a hundred years," which further demonstrates that the rule of the British empire was cruel and did not respect the proper rights of everyone, and the lowest of the workers in society are being mistreated by high transportation prices and unjustified laws that cut their trading power in half. Aside from that, in today's end, food producers, like farmers back then, are given much more incentives because the government now recognizes the importance of taking care of this type of industry. This is also a critical need in a human, so it must be affordable in order to keep society going and livable.
