The United States Supreme Court Building
The Supreme Court Building is located at Washington D.C. and is located near another iconic infrastructure which is the United States Capitol. The said building, completed in 1935, has been famous for its Neoclassical design that aims to show the “dignity and importance” of the nation’s highest court (Architect of the Capitol, n.d.). Nonetheless, it would also be due to its grandeur and immense size that makes it a tourist spot visited by thousands of tourists every year.
Upon first look, it is apparent that the Supreme Court Building bears a resemblance to most neo-classical structures, which are characterized with widespread blank (or white) walls and exaggerated columns (Encyclopædia Britannica, inc., 2018 ). Other distinctive qualities of this architectural style are both the usual size of the structures and the inclination towards geometric shapes.

Looking closely however, what catches most of the attention are the gigantic pillars that line the portico seems to hold the immense roof of the building. Consequently, atop these pillars is a triangular roof that made of Vermont marble that bear the words “Equal Justice Under Law” and a sculpture that shows different individuals. While these two are similar to most buildings created during the 18th and early 19th century period, the columns utilized by the architect for the building are Corinthians rather than Doric (Encyclopædia Britannica, inc., 2018 ). Perhaps, this was to add more detail and emphasis towards the columns are Doric are much more simple and plain as compared to its successors.
