Today’s practical subjects depend on the intellectual basis set by the mathematicians of ancient Greece, ranging from design, astronomy, engineering to geometry. The Greeks introduced some tremendous advancements in mathematics which are still used today. However, to some extent, the Hellenistic and Roman/Byzantine legend and the Classical Periods Mathematician Euclid has become one of the most significant figures of Greek Mathematics.

Euclid is mainly referred to as the Father of Geometry. He is remembered for writing the most successful and vital mathematical book called Elements, which is among the most outstanding mathematics book ever written and represents the attainment of the revolution of mathematics. Starting with few simple mathematical principles, such as the fact that all right-angles are equal, he proved many mathematical theorems placing them in his book, Elements (Evans, 2015). He is recognized for being the editor and the compiler of great works in mathematics. His proofs were original and developed by him, such as his proof of the Pythagorean Theorem. Today’s modern high school geometry is typically based on his work. His book consists of the original copies of works done by other previous mathematicians that might have been lost, but luckily it retains the work record.
In addition to his book, Euclid is known for his other works in mathematics. These works consist of proved propositions and definitions. Today, his proofs are highly recognized for their accuracy and completeness (Evans, 2015). An excellent example of this work is the concept of the division of Geometrical figures into parts in given ratios or equal parts. Another significant contribution from the Elements is Euclid’s algorithm. This algorithm is used for finding the greatest common divisor of numbers.
