The Role of Global Media and the Internet in Diffusing Ideas in Kuwait
The world today has without a doubt developed and advanced into a limitless society with dynamic technological innovations, communication, trade, interaction and most importantly, globalization. Ideally, the modern integrated models of communication allow people to interact on a much more extensive scale, especially with the help of the internet and global media. Indeed, as the human society, it has been a fruitful journey in initiating, developing and establishing secure and reliable communication platforms unlimited by the constraints of geography and spatial variations. In that case, it would suffice to contend that through the rapid spread of information on a global scale, cultures and identities are bound to diffuse. This may happen both in a positive and negative spectrum. Positive, in the sense that different cultures learn about each other's customs, norms, and behaviours, which is paramount to the spread of global peace and cohesion.
However, through easier access to information, human communities may slowly start losing their cultures and beliefs. This might seem appealing, especially since the world has a common goal of promoting oneness. However, what makes humans unique is their innate and explicit nature of being varied, differentiated, but similar to members of a particular species. Specifically, the world is divided into religions, races and ethnicities; a case in point is the predominantly Muslim community of Kuwait. This paper focuses on the roles of the internet and global media in disseminating ideas in Kuwait. The main claim of this essay is that the internet and global media have ultimately altered the cultures, identity, and language in Kuwait and diffuse new values and ideas.
