Maoism is a communist ideology that was initiated and developed by Mao Zedong. The ideology supports the use of mass insurgency, mobilization of the masses, and forming strategic alliances to capture the power of the state. Further, the Maoism approach uses supports the use of propaganda and misleading information as the hinges on which the doctrinal provisions of its insurgency ride. Mao, who was the founder of this ideology, refers to Maoism's procedural doctrine as the Protracted People's War, with a great emphasis being put on using the military line to capture power. Mao based his approach on the peasantry's strength and ability to revolutionize during the preindustrial period. Therefore, Mao seems to have taken Karl Marx's ideas and customized them to favour China's condition.
There are various reasons why Maoism failed. First, his ideas were almost not practical. His peasantry-based industrialization policies, which were famously known as the great leap forward, failed terribly. One of the major reasons for the fall of these policies and Maoism was a great famine and social collapse. The mass famine, which was so intense, is said to have come due to ecological disaster due to some of Mao's policies in place.
