The Imagery of a Passage in Great Gatsby
Scott Fitzgerald writes the book titled The Great Gatsby. It Is appropriate to conclude that Fitzgerald conveys both good and sinister qualities of Gatsby in the passage. However, the good qualities of the Gatsby party are more dominant over the sinister attributes. The good qualities of Gatsby's party are the cohesion between people and the position of women. In contrast, the bad qualities in Gatsby's party include impersonation and immorality. Moreover, the author uses imagery to create a vivid picture and hence display these qualities.
The quality of cohesion and togetherness is evident in the way "…the groups change more swiftly, swell with new arrivals dissolve and form in the same breath." The author creates an imagery of performance that is well-coordinated and uniformly synchronized. This imagery represents cohesion and togetherness within the society. Moreover, The author places women in the central position within the context of the passage. Fitzgerald creates an Imagery of powerful women when he mentions, "confident girls weave here and there among the stouter and more stable. " Unlike patriarchal eras, this imagery paints a picture of a modern society that embraces women empowerment. Fitzgerald creates an imagery of a powerful female dancer "…who seizes a cocktail out of the air, dumps it down for courage and moving her hands like Frisco dances out alone on the canvas platform." Everyone's attention is drifted towards this female dancer because she is mistaken for a famous sexy dancer.
