Assignment 2.1:Policemen of the World Thesis and Outline
Due Week 7 and worth 70 points
After the Civil War and by the mid-20th century, the United States had become the dominant force in international relations. Some have argued that the United States' military functions as the world's "police." This assignment covers the manner in which this shift occurred and the consequences the United States faces as a result of its status as "policemen of the world." Using the Internet, research two (2) real-life international incidents from the past five (5) years in which:
-The U.S. used military action abroad.
-Controversy existed within the American public regarding U.S. involvement.
-Controversy existed within the country or countries affected by U.S. involvement.
For the first part of this assignment you will create a thesis statement. A thesis statement is usually a single sentence somewhere in your first paragraph that presents your main idea to the reader. The body of the essay organizes the material you gather and present in support of your main idea. Keep in mind that a thesis is an interpretation of a question or subject, not the subject itself. (Note: Please consult the Purdue OWL Website with tips on how to construct a proper thesis; the website can be found at: https://owl(dot)english(dot)purdue(dot)edu/owl/resource/545/01/

Introduction
The US gained the position and the respect worldwide after going through several stages of development. Historically, the country was initially divided, but its radical leaders spearheaded policies that eventually consolidated people. Americans realized the benefits of working together creating a huge impact worldwide. It is through the America history that global policies have been influenced. The US has been actively involved in policy development at the international and domestic levels since the civil war. This exhibited in major world events, for instance, the World War II and other recent events, which have greatly contributed in depicting the country as the world’s superpower (Dukes, 2000).
The American Civil War
The Civil War occurred between 1861 and 1865 owing to the differences that emerged between the Northern and Southern part of the country (Waugh, & Gallagher, 2009). Both parts of the country viewed their priorities from different perspectives, and so neither side could compromise to have the other side rule or make policies to govern the whole country. The southern people felt left out and wanted to rule because they were the majority in unions. This resulted to war caused by several differences including people rights, election and slavery issues (Dukes, 2000).

America and other countries that do not support terrorism considered the fall of Osama Bin Laden as one of the major steps towards protecting its citizen. This was motivated by lessons from the civil war. The government invested in programs and other related projects to ensure that all its citizens are safe from any terrorist attacks.
