Europe is a considerable place and a concept in global history. It has undergone dramatic sociopolitical and historical development over centuries. At one time one of the world's most war-torn areas, but contrastingly considered a peaceful place currently. Napoleonic revolutionary wars underpinned some of the conflicts that have shaped Europe's map. The Napoleonic Wars reflects conflicts pitting the French Empire and its allies against highly shifting many European powers that had forged coalitions. Thus, Napoleon's period was marked by a brief period of French domination over mainstream Europe. However, it sparked a great wave of nationalism and a series of wars and conflicts that define the modern map of Europe.
Many wars defined modern Europe. One such conflict is the Battle of Trafalgar, with a naval fight pitting the British against Spain and France's fleet. This response was a British assault against the growing influence of Bonaparte Napoleon over Europe's mainland. The victory at the Battle of Trafalgar ensured that Napoleon did not invade Britain again. Another war involved the Crimean War (1853-1856), which revolves around Russia's interests over Europe. The Crimean War resulted from Russian pressure on Turkey. This pressure threatened British commercial interests in the Middle East and India. However, France took advantage of the Crimean war to consolidate its relationship France with Britain and to reassert its military power. The Anglo-French forces secured Istanbul in Turkey before assaulting. Other wars include Napoleon defeating the allied Russo-Austrian army, the conflict between Britain and France in 1803-1814, and the Peninsular war, among others!
