The cold war was when the US, Soviet Union, and their allies were involved in political rivalries after World War II. The cold war had vast impacts both on the American Soviet union's side. These impacts spanned across the society and included economic, social, and political impacts. Some of them were so severe that they led to notable transformations in various facets of society. Perhaps the most affected sectors were American politics and different ideologies that buttressed it. The tension between Russia and America had been brewing before the Second World War. However, the two countries had to keep their differences at bay when they became allies against Germany. After the Second World War, there developed five reasons for the fallout of the two nations. These reasons included Germany's future, the atomic bomb, economic reconstruction, Poland, and the impending governments of eastern European countries. After the war, America wanted to buttress its influence in Western Europe in what was referred to as the sphere of influence. Even though Franklin Roosevelt was championing this trajectory, he met opposition from a section of congress led by John Dingell, who opposed America's notion of 'sphere of influence.' Dingell's opposition is the popular statement that "We Americans are not sacrificing, fighting, and dying to make permanent and more powerful Russia's communistic government and make Joseph Stalin a dictator over the liberated countries of Europe." Americans wanted the governments in Eastern Europe after the war formed through a democratic process. Citizens were involved in the free and fair election of their leaders without outside forces' influence. According to America, this would happen for countries that fell within Eastern Europe. America, however, recognized that Poland fell within the Soviet Union's sphere of influence.
