Novelists and writers play fundamental roles in society because they assist in expounding not only about issues and concerns in the region but also in detailing on key historical facts. In Western literature, Herodotus is held in high regards because of his efforts and thoughts shared in the Histories. It is widely believed that Herodotus wrote the book to preserve and maintain traces of human events. He was also inclined to write the book to prevent these historical bits and pieces of information from being erased over time. Through the effective documentation of the book, Herodotus is labelled by some individuals as the Father of History who was instrumental in highlighting the hostilities between the Greek and Persians. Herodotus shared various themes and facts concerning the conflict and also echoed his sentiment on some of the possible causes of the Persian War. Despite the rich history that Herodotus covered in the book, he has been accused and criticized for his travel sidebars. In one section of the book, Herodotus completely digressed and covered the basic history of Egypt. Information the origins of the Nile and animals in the region such as cats and crocodiles were not necessary and contradicted the primary motive of the book.
In part 2 of the book, Herodotus alluded to the fact Egypt would not have existed if not for River Nile. While the primary aim of the book was to expound of some of the possible causes of the Persian War, the information on Egypt is deemed to be on his travel sidebars that is not only characteristic of his writing but also unimportant.
