Evita’s Image
In the image, Evita is seen waving at a large crowd from a raised platform, probably on a podium or in a political vehicle. It is likely from a political function or a rally in Argentina or her many visits abroad. The function was probably a happy function, as seen from her facial expression. She is smiling, an indication that the crowd is happy about seeing her and receiving her address. The subjects around her are also happy. The creator of the image may be wanted to communicate the happiness that surrounded Eva’s life even in the face of oppositions she faced. This purpose is effectively achieved, considering that she was loved by many through the reforms she brought to the vulnerable of Argentina (Hedges, 2016).
The passage from Evita’s Autobiography
Women were undergoing oppression in Argentina from the excerpt. Eva, being the country’s first lady, stepped forward to support women. This was not received well by the male who thought Eva was going against the norm of women being submissive and inferior to men. She says it is the needs of nature for a woman to give up herself for love. It is this argument that kept males dominating the country’s top government positions. These ideas are obvious in the image because Eva is the only female in the company of other men a sign of male dominance (Hedges, 2016).
Is Evita a feminist?
Evita should not be characterized as a feminist. All she is doing is to care for a population that is oppressed. Argentina, for a long time, left women from critical decision-making scenarios like voting. This is why Eva was advocating for the female to vote as well as hold political offices. However, this does not mean she is a feminist.
