The discovery of America and that of the passage to the East Indies by the Cape of Good Hope, are the two (2) greatest events recorded in the history of [human] kind” – Adam Smith, in The Wealth of Nations,1776. Think about why he and many other notables supported this statement, especially concerning the discovery of America. What was so important about this New World across the Atlantic Ocean from Europe? How did it change globalization in terms of trade, culture, societies, innovations, new and old world exchanges, and in other ways?
You have already developed a thesis statement and developed an outline in which you identify three (3) main points relevant to your topic. Now you will develop the final paper in which you explore your main points in detail.
Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you:
Introduce your paper with your previously crafted thesis statement.
Identify three (3) major aspects that demonstrate Old and New World exchanges. Explain your responses with specific examples and details.
Identify three (3) specific groups that were affected by this global event and provide two (2) examples for each group describing how the group was affected.
Summarize how this discovery affected the life of the average working American during the colonial period. Use specific examples and details.

Introduction
The three major aspects that demonstrate the old and new world exchanges include the movement of commodities, diseases, and people across the Atlantic Ocean. Christopher Columbus was able to introduce sugarcane, horses, and new kind of diseases to the New World. On the other side, there was the introduction of tobacco, chocolate, and potatoes to the Old World. The process by which there was the introduction of new people, disease, and commodities into the two worlds is known as the Columbian exchange.

Due to the expansion of the market in Europe, they advised new methods to ensure increased profits. The mercantilism philosophy was critical in shaping the European views of wealth between the 1500s and 1700s. The amount of wealth during this period was measured in terms of gold and silver bullion. For the nations to ensure an increased power, they engaged in the mining of these precious commodities in the New World to amass more wealth (Salisbury, 2017). The colonial authorities saw the need for enacting a protectionist policy that was useful in benefiting their interest. The policies depended on the following factors cheap labor, loyalty to the home government, and raw materials. Under these policies, the raw material was harvested by slaves from Africa, which were then exported to European nations. It led to increased industrialization as the industries produced tools, textiles, manufactured goods, and clothes, which were sold in the New World. The sugar product was the most critical commodity sourced from the New World. The importance of sugar between the 1500s and 1700s is equal to the need for sugar nowadays. The Europeans got into a race of creating sugar plantations in America and engaged in conflicts to ensure that they had absolute control of sugar control. As a result, there was a movement of slaves from Africa to the New World to ensure that there is sustenance for the demand for labor. Even though the old world had sugar, having sugar plantations in the Old World was difficult due to the existence of bad weather.
