Fascism is largely credited to be the root of the two world wars. Fascism is defined as a political ideology in many circles, but upon a closer analysis of the concept, it seems to transcend the definitions of political ideologies. Fascism is not easy to pin down as a political ideology like libertarianism, conservatives, etc because it commands so strong a following that it blinds its followers to the detriment to the society. A case in point is Italy under Benito Mussolini, who turned the country into a dictatorship and suppressed the voice of the people yet they continued to rally behind him in the hope of a better and superior Italy. Mussolini’s goals were to command an international dominance and a strong army, but he suppressed the voice of the people and did very little to alleviate the suffering of the people living in poverty. Despite the seemingly ill-advised strategy to build a strong army in a country with poor economy, the people continued to rally behind him. Many people so much believed in him that they would risk their lives to actualize the vision of a superior Italy. Some paid the price with the ultimate price; death for believing in the misguided strategic direction of their country under the captaincy of the dictatorial Mussolini. Thus, fascism was a spiritualized concept that was enwrapped in ultra-nationalism.
Fascists' sacrifice and dedication to the goals of the movement are beyond what normally people do or sacrifice for other political ideologies. In itself, fascism is a spiritual concept that commandeers its followers to live above their pleasures in the interest of the nation. Fascism commands a near cult-like following from its followers who prioritize the movement at the expense of anything they hold dear to themselves.
