Asian-Americans are the Fastest Rising Ethnic Group in the U.S.A
Asian-Americans are the fastest rising ethnic group in the United States today. They are considered the most intellectual, sophisticated, wealthy, and happy. On the other hand, people are unaware of their origins and history. They were considered to be inferior to other groups and struggled as a result of their race. In her book, The Making of Asian American History, Erika Lee emphasizes that this minority has been loathed and revered (Lee, 2015). Therefore, it is evident that Lee has given people a new perspective on Asian Americans. Lee allows her readers to look back in time and understand that the present is a product of the past.
The Making of Asian American History seeks to uncover Asian American history and the current situation. The author believes their history is rich and complex, but it sometimes goes unnoticed, which is why the book was written. The author felt compelled to reveal their past. Asian-Americans have played a vital role in America’s history and development. Their story is told in five parts throughout the book. The first section discusses the origins of Asians in America, the second discusses the formation of Asian Americans, the third discusses the condition of Asian Americans during wartime, the fourth discusses the new Asian America in a globalized world, and the final section discusses Asian Americans in the twenty-first century. The chronological arrangement of the events in the story allows the readers to understand the bittersweet experiences of the Asian-Americans. The plot has been expertly woven so that all pieces fit together perfectly. For example, the author mentioned Asian-American workers who bravely entered the marketplace and tried their luck despite knowing that the journey would be difficult due to racial discrimination. And fortunately, they have succeeded even though they are being discriminated against. The readers can also witness the change in American society. Initially, they despise this group of people and do not give them an opportunity or privilege. But as time progresses, this group of people has been finally included and recognized in society. In conclusion, the book determines the purpose of Asian-American immigration, racial group, economy, and politics in one book (Lee, 2015).
The book has many characteristics that keep readers interested. The author has written a well-researched book to illuminate the history that needs to be unraveled. The chronological arrangement of the plot allows the reader to locate Asian Americans’ roots and origin. The author allows the readers to be aware of the history that has been unknown or forgotten for years. The chronological arrangement has also helped the readers follow the story’s flow, from the origin until the present. Furthermore, the author helps readers understand that before Asian Americans achieved what they have now, they had to go through a long and tiresome process of fighting discrimination and racism. Most importantly, the book teaches readers that no matter how bad or tragic one’s past is, it does not guarantee a terrible present. Everyone can change their fate and live their desired life (Lee, 2015). As a result, the book’...
